We stayed at Moorhen Lodge in the late spring, and it was wonderful.
The living area is at the back of the property, overlooking the River Meon, and so it was very peaceful. During the time we were there we saw a variety of wildlife, including moorhens, and their chicks, mallards, and water voles. The water was quite clear and so we saw several fish as well. There was ample outside seating so that we could enjoy al fresco meals and a barbecue.
The whole house was very comfortable. It was spotless and had all the facilities we needed, including one spacious family bathroom, as well as an en suite shower room. Unlike so many other holiday lets, the owners hadn’t fitted out the kitchen with the cheapest pans and utensils they could find. Their eclectic mix of furniture and fittings made this modern property feel cosy in the evenings, just like home.
Chesapeake Mill, is literally less than a minute’s walk away, and is a fabulous place to shop and find something unusual. Wickham village square is only a 3 or 4 minute walk away, and has a variety of independent shops, including a bakery, newsagent, gift shops, pubs and cafes, as well as a well stocked Co-op and Post Office.
The disused railway line provides a lovely country walk into the Meon Valley. During our stay we visited Southsea sea front, the historic Dockyard, outlet shopping at Gunwharf Quays. We also went to Goodwood, Chichester and Hayling Island – all of which are around 30 minutes away by car.
I won’t hesitate to book this property in the future, when I want to visit the area again – I wouldn’t even look elsewhere!
